Presentations: 2 Minute Training #7: Write Cues On Your Presentation Pieces

You practiced your presentation, and you helped to design every single piece of it. You worked for days and nights to make sure that you have a well-oiled machine of a presentation team. So, when you pull out the 3rd presentation piece, and you pull a blank in your head… What can you do to recover?

Tyler Dockery Suggests that your team write yourself cues on the back of your pieces.

Prior to your presentation, you will no doubt have a plan on what you’ll say for each piece of your presentation. Why not save yourself some trouble and write down a few cues or notes to yourself? Just a quick sentence will give you all the cue you will need. If you are showing a complicated chart, a small black and white picture with a strong colored area on the back will help you to remember what the most important portion of the display is.

When you are showing your presentation pieces, Tyler Dockery suggests that your numbers and graphs should be posted on nice boards which could be easily placed from the ground up onto on easel. As the board is lifted, you will be able to see the notecard you have firmly (and I really do mean FIRMLY) affixed to the back. You can use double-sided tape, but our team suggests Spray Mount.

Keep you and your team on track by cleverly placing written cues on the back of your pieces. Tyler Dockery has only had one client presentation when they have requested to keep a board. However, on that one occasion, the client called our team later to tell us how excellent it was that the note was on the back, because they were able to pitch the idea to their board, and make the same important points that we made in our presentation.

Has a tactic like this ever saved your bacon? Tell us about it!
