Dockery Design Staff Asked to Teach Course in Advanced Typography
Dec 18th, 2009 10:57am EST
On December 18th, 2009, Tyler Dockery, creative lead at Dockery Design, a Raleigh Graphic Design Firm was asked as a special favor by old colleagues at Wake Tech to return and teach a course in Advanced Typography.
“I have taught at the collegiate level at Wake Tech before”, Tyler Dockery noted. “Their program is really geared towards creating a student with a strong skillset, a good portfolio, and an unusually purposeful drive towards project completion. These students are looking to enter the workplace with practical skills, a strong graphic design and web design knowledge, and hands-on experience. Students in the Advertising and Graphic Design curriculum at Wake Tech are ready for the real world, and they are ready to work hard.
“Which is good,” Tyler stated with a quiet smile, “because my classes are a lot of work. Tough work. Real work. Good work.”
In 2005, 2006, and 2007, Tyler Dockery had taught classes at Wake Technical Community College which were part of several Associates Degree Packages. As an adjunct faculty member for Wake Tech, Tyler taught classes in Design Basics, Illustrator, Photography, Advanced Typography, and Photoshop for Video Game Design. In addition to being a staff member, Tyler also helped out with the Student Graphic Design Association.
Tyler has also been a curriculum advisor to Wake Tech in 2005-2007 and again in 2009. He feels that advising the college on its curriculum will help it to offer the best classes to help keep students’ futures bright, and allow them to hit the streets with the proper skills to land a graphic design or web design job, and prosper.
“Returning to Wake Tech for the Spring Semester 2010 is something I look very foward to. It’ll be nice to have my own office on campus, but working with the students on the projects that will mold their first portfolio— that’s the real draw. The students see every project as one which might land them that next great job. They work hard, they listen hard, they care, and they’re ready to learn and understand. I just love that.”
During the Spring Semester 2010, Tyler Dockery will be teaching Advanced Typography, 2 courses on Photoshop, and a course on Photoshop for Web Design. His work will encompass both PC and Mac Lab environments for his classes, and will require the use of both Adobe CS3 and Adobe CS4 software packages. Some courses will be taught online through Wake Tech’s Blackboard online teaching environment. Tyler Dockery will retain his role as creative lead with Dockery Design during this time

I’ve seen some of the work you do. Or you and your team… no wonder you teach courses on typography. Keep up the excellent work.
My cousin would really appreciate this blog post. We were just talking about this. hehe
I Really like what you have done with your blog! Mine needs some serious help. Perhaps I’ll hire you to consult, hahah

I just discovered how to spam the hell out of any website who discuss about opportunity.
If you want to know more about it: here it is [website removed because this is just ridiculous].
Hey, I like your site. I was wondering if you would do a review post of my product at [website removed]
Nice!, found your post on digg. When I visited your site, the fonts are really tiny? Anyway, love your page and will be back.Bye
Currently traveling between Miami and Florida, reading this on my Iphone. Will read it in full when I get back, and I will also post a backlink on my website. Thanks.
Hello. This is kind of an “unconventional” question , but have other visitors asked you how get the menu bar to look like you’ve got it? I also have a blog and am really looking to alter around the theme, however am scared to death to mess with it for fear of the search engines punishing me. I am very new to all of this …so i am just not positive exactly how to try to to it all yet. I’ll just keep working on it one day at a time Thanks for any help you can offer here
Cool! Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing.
Man, this is just sad. If you paid for this, I suggest that you do far more than get your money back. I would suggest 1,000 free links based on incompetence. I mean, they didn’t even get your website in there. this is just sad.
It would be unethical to review it without trying it. Send a copy to our office with a note, and setup instructions with contact information. I’ll be happy to review, but I only review or plug materials that work. If they don’t work, then I review why they didn’t.
well, you’ve made a few comments here, so I’ll be happy to answer. This theme is called Atahualpa, and its excellent. I have a redesign in the works for 2010, so you may see some changes. if your blog needs a redesign, drop us a line and we’ll send you a quote.
Looks like I have a real opportunity to post. I was in one of your typography classes in 2005. You were one of the hardest teachers I had, and my c-level work in your typography class got me hired right out of college. Either you didn’t realize how great it was, or your A-level students must be expected to really run the show.
@George: Yes, my classes are tough. Especially typography. I feel that the level of student achievement will raise to meet the expectations of the teacher. Study the typography, rise to the occasion, and grades will follow. Good luck in your current job. Send us a link to your website or workplace website!
I am glad that I ran into your site on Bing. I really enjoyed your post. If you are interested in swapping links with each other’s sites, let me know. I’d be happy to get on each other’s blogrolls.
Your typographic work better be good enough to craft the future. I’m going to look at your work, and if it isn’t good, I’m going to ream you out here. Teaching huh…
If your classes teach typography to the level you exhibit in your resources page PDF, no wonder you’re teaching in the college.
I’m still learning!
As a Newbie, I am permanently exploring online for articles that can benefit me. Thank you
Salut, ça fait la second fois que je tombe sur ce blog cette semaine! bon travail… ça mérite un bookmark.
Bon site, cependant l’affichage et un peu bizarre sur Chrome… jetes un coup d’oeil
You actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be really something that I think I would never understand. It seems too complicated and very broad for me. I am looking forward for your next post, I’ll try to get the hang of it!
I know this isn’t exactly on topic, but I have a blog using the blogengine platform and I’m having problems with my comments displaying. Is there a setting I am forgetting? Maybe you could help me out? Thanks!
I like when you talk about this type of stuff in your posts. Perhaps could you continue to do this?
Hi. I treasured to drop you a quick note to express my thanks. I’ve been observing your blog for a month or so and have plucked up a heap of sound information as well as enjoyed the way you’ve structured your site. I am setting about to run my own blog however I think its too general and I would like to focus more on smaller topics.

Hi, possibly i’m being a little off topic here, but I was browsing your site and it looks stimulating. I’m writing a blog and trying to make it look neat, but everytime I touch it I mess something up. Did you design the blog yourself? Could someone with little experience do it, and add updates without messing it up? Anyways, good information on here, very informative.
I’d have to check with you here. Which is not something I usually do! I enjoy reading a post that will make people think. Also, thanks for allowing me to comment!

Hi and thanks a great deal for publishing this!
A large percentage of of the things you articulate happens to be supprisingly precise and it makes me ponder the reason why I had not looked at this with this light before. This particular piece really did switch the light on for me as far as this specific subject goes. Nonetheless at this time there is actually one particular point I am not really too cozy with so whilst I attempt to reconcile that with the core theme of the position, let me see what the rest of your visitors have to say.Well done.
You’ve some helpful ideas! Maybe I should to think about doing this by my self. Cheers
I must say that I’ve gladlyliked exploring your page, will visit back near future..keep up the fantasticwork.have a green day
Awesome website you have here but I was wondering if you knew of any discussion boards that cover the same topics discussed here? I’d really like to be a part of group where I can get advice from other experienced people that share the same interest. If you have any recommendations, please let me know. Bless you!
Thank you for any other informative site. The place else could I get that type of info written in such a perfect method? I have a mission that I’m just now running on, and I’ve been at the look out for such info.
Hey. I just found some coupons for those people interested in good hosting from a company called HostGator. CostChomp25 saves you 25%, and CostChomp994 gives you $9.94 off your order. I’ve used the 25% one and it worked out great! Hope this helps someone!
Have you ever thought about including a bit bit more than just your ideas? I mean, what you say is vital and everything. But its got no punch, no pop! Possibly for those who added a pic or two, a video? You possibly can have such a extra highly effective blog if you happen to let individuals SEE what youre talking about instead of simply studying it. Anyway, in my language, there aren’t a lot good source like this.

Howdy just wanted to give you a brief heads up and let you know a few of the pictures aren’t loading properly. I’m not sure why but I think its a linking issue. I’ve tried it in two different browsers and both show the same results.
